BRIAN WIRTZ

Brian Wirtz has been acquiring and redeveloping large apartment communities for nearly 30 years. During the 1990s, he pioneered large-scale apartment redevelopment as an executive with AvalonBay Communities and Essex Property Trust. He has been responsible for the purchase of over 15,000 apartment homes valued at over $1.3 billion. He founded his own investment company in 1998 which later merged into the San Francisco office of The Bascom Group. Company founders are all alumni from the University of Wisconsin’s Real Estate and Urban Land Economics program.
Brian’s investment partners have included the largest life insurance companies and pension funds including CalPERS, Metropolitan Life, Mass Mutual, and Oak Tree Capital. Ultra-high net worth private investors include the family office of iconic office developer William Wilson III.
DAVID SCHAFER
Director of Asset management
David Schafer joined the team in March 2024 as a Director of Asset Management. Primary responsibilities include property oversight, budgeting, operating platform accounting, capital improvements, third party management oversight, contract negotiations, financial analysis, tax, property underwriting, acquisitions, dispositions, finance activities, market studies and loan closings.
Before becoming part of the team, David spearheaded multifamily affordable real estate development, taking charge of the acquisition process, overseeing construction budgets, and playing a pivotal role in the accomplishments of affordable housing multifamily development initiatives exceeding $50M. David is a US Army veteran, and currently enrolled at the University of Denver obtaining a dual Master’s Degree: MBA | MS Real Estate and the Built Environment.
